SUMMARY:Behind Radiohead KID A MNESIA: the Film & Video Game
DESCRIPTION:A behind-the-scenes look at how Radiohead’s KID A MNESIA moved from artwork to video game\, film and physical installation.\nMore and more creative projects are expected to live in several forms at once: music\, art\, game\, film and in-person experience. But each move into a new medium means new tools\, new constraints and new decisions about what to keep and what to change. \nThis Experience Briefing breaks down how the project came to life\, why the different forms were created\, and the processes behind each step of the journey. \nThe goal: give experience designers\, producers and creative teams a firsthand look at how to translate a creative world across mediums. \nThe source material may be strong. The audience may already be there. But carrying the same creative world from one medium to the next – without losing what made it work – is less straightforward. \nKID A MNESIA began with artwork created during the recording sessions for Kid A and Amnesiac. Decades later\, that artwork became the KID A MNESIA Exhibition video game\, then a film\, and finally Motion Picture House\, a travelling physical installation. \nIn this session\, Matthew Davis\, Founder of interactive media studio [namethemachine]\, will take us behind the scenes of the project’s creation and evolution. \nDrawing on his work producing Radiohead’s KID A MNESIA Virtual Exhibition and film\, alongside years building show control systems for live performance\, Matthew will show the decisions behind each transformation\, what was learned along the way\, and the challenges of keeping one creative world intact across multiple mediums. \nHe’ll use original artwork\, early layouts\, renderings\, reference material and work-in-progress content to tell the story. \nThe session will explore:\n\nThe story behind KID A MNESIA and Motion Picture House\, from the original recording-session artwork to today\nHow the original physical art was translated into a digital environment using Unreal Engine\nHow the world and imagery created for the game were taken into film\nHow the team worked out the best way to experience that film in a physical space\nWhy each form was created\, and the decisions behind each transformation\nWhat was learned along the way\, and the challenges of carrying one creative world across music\, art\, game\, film and in-person experience\n\nWho is it for?\n\nExperience designers and creative directors\nCreative producers and production teams\nArtists and teams working across music\, film\, digital and physical experiences\nImmersive\, exhibition and cultural experience teams\nAnyone adapting an existing creative world or IP for a new format\nFans of Radiohead\n\nAbout Matthew Davis\nMatthew Davis is an audio-visual producer\, programmer and musician\, whose passion for music leads him to discover new ways of interacting with art and technology. \nHe runs interactive media studio [namethemachine]\, where he produced Radiohead’s KID A MNESIA Virtual Exhibition and film. He has spent years inventing show control systems for live performance and building adaptive platforms for experiential and real-time environments. He also plays electronics for the LA Philharmonic\, and has programmed Drake’s live show for the last fifteen years. \nA musician since childhood\, Matthew graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Economics\, then studied Music Production & Programming at Berklee College of Music. Superposition\, his ambient music project with longtime collaborator Justin Boreta (The Glitch Mob)\, was nominated for Best New Age Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards. \n\n \n\n  \nHow to watch this Experience Briefing:\n\nExperience Briefings are available for WXO members only\nTo join the WXO\, please head to our Application page\nThe WXO is a global home for the leaders\, shapers and doers in the Experience Economy\nAs a member\, you’ll get live access to Experience Briefings like this one plus unlock an on demand library of over 100 recordings\n\n  \n\n  \nTimings:\nSession #2 is suitable for those in the US or Europe\, but everyone is welcome! SUMMARY:A Toolkit for Immersive
DESCRIPTION:A practical session on designing immersive experiences around the visitor – with a free toolkit any team can use.\n  \nImmersive design know-how often sits with large studios and big budgets. Emerging creatives\, cultural organisations and smaller teams have the ambition\, but rarely the frameworks or specialist expertise to match. \nThis Experience Briefing introduces Immerse Up\, Gary Moynihan’s free\, practical toolkit for designing more meaningful\, visitor-centred experiences. \nThe goal: give producers and creative teams practical frameworks for turning ambitious ideas into experiences that work for the people walking through them. \nThe idea may be bold. The technology may be impressive. But designing an experience that works for visitors – within real budgets and real-world constraints – is less straightforward. \nIn this session\, Gary Moynihan\, creative director\, consultant and former Head of Creative at Grande Experiences and THE LUME\, will explore why great immersive design starts with the visitor. \nDrawing on lessons from large-scale immersive exhibitions experienced by millions of visitors worldwide\, and from teaching immersive media at Swinburne University\, Gary will share practical frameworks for thinking about audiences\, participation\, immersion and inclusive design. \nThe session will explore:\n\nWhy great immersive design starts with the visitor\, not the technology\nUsing the Experience Vision framework to define tone\, dramatic arc and memorable hero moments\nCreating purposeful interaction and participation with Moment Mapping\, Interaction Purpose and Levels of Participation\nApplying Inclusive Design principles to balance creativity with accessibility\, resources and real-world constraints\nHow to help clients turn ambitious ideas into achievable experiences\nHow the industry can share its knowledge and tools more openly – and help the next generation create better experiences\n\nWho is it for?\n\nProducers and project leads who need practical frameworks for turning an immersive idea into a viable\, visitor-centred experience\nEmerging practitioners and smaller creative teams without large budgets or specialist design expertise – but with all the ambition in the world\nCreatives from other design disciplines developing immersive\, interactive and location-based experiences\nCultural organisations developing visitor experiences\nNon-traditional teams taking their first steps into immersive design\nAnyone who wants to design experiences that put the visitor first\n\nAbout Gary Moynihan\nGary Moynihan is a creative director\, consultant\, educator and advocate focused on creating more meaningful experiences for audiences. \nAs Head of Creative at Grande Experiences and THE LUME\, he shaped large-scale immersive exhibitions experienced by millions of visitors worldwide. Today\, he works independently on immersive projects\, consulting with creative teams\, cultural organisations and experience-makers from concept through to delivery. \nHe also teaches immersive media at Swinburne University\, and created Immerse Up\, a free practical toolkit making visitor-centred immersive design more accessible to emerging creatives and teams worldwide. \n\n \n\n  \nHow to watch this Experience Briefing:\n\nExperience Briefings are available for WXO members only\nTo join the WXO\, please head to our Application page\nThe WXO is a global home for the leaders\, shapers and doers in the Experience Economy\nAs a member\, you’ll get live access to Experience Briefings like this one plus unlock an on demand library of over 100 recordings\n\n  \n\n  \nTimings:\nCampfire #1 is suitable for those in the APAC region or Europe\, but everyone is welcome! SUMMARY:GTA 6: A New Model for Tourism (Early)
DESCRIPTION:A practical session on how video game worlds are shaping where people travel – and how destinations can get ahead of it.\nFilm tourism has been around for decades. Now video games are catching up. As more games are set in places inspired by real cities\, players are starting to visit the locations behind them – a new kind of “set-jetting”. \nThis Experience Briefing breaks down current video game partnership trends\, the ethics of game-based partnerships\, and how destinations and attractions can organise around them. \nThe goal: give attractions\, destinations and experience-makers practical ways to turn game releases into real-world engagement. \nThe audience may be huge. The hype may be unprecedented. But knowing how to turn a game’s popularity into real-world visits – responsibly\, and with the local community on board – is less straightforward. \nGTA 6 is a case in point. Set in a world inspired by Miami and Florida\, its release could be the moment this shift goes mainstream. \nIn this session\, Kaliq Ray\, a Miami-based UX designer and Event Producer at Signify Creative\, will share his observations from the intersection of travel\, hospitality\, film\, open-source technology and culture. \nDrawing on more than 15 years in creative direction and experience design – across entertainment\, film\, hospitality\, game development\, government and nonprofits – Kaliq will explore how video game IPs drive awareness and engagement\, and how destinations can use this trend to benefit their attractions and city event ecosystems. \nThe session will explore:\n\nHow video game IPs are shaping future travel trends – and why set-jetting is moving from film to games\nWhat the release of GTA 6 could mean for tourism\nCurrent industry trends in video game partnerships\nThe ethics to consider when engaging in game-based partnerships\nHow to organise with your community around video game IP partnerships\nPractical ways to start leveraging game releases in your promotions\n\nWho is it for?\n\nTourism organisations and destination marketers\nLocation-based attractions and city event teams\nHospitality professionals\nExperience designers\, creative directors and producers\nMarketers looking for new ways to drive awareness and engagement\nCultural experience teams and technologists\n\nAbout Kaliq Ray\nKaliq Ray is a design professional with more than 15 years of experience\, specialising in creative direction and experience design. \nBased in Miami\, he is a UX designer and Event Producer at Signify Creative. His work spans entertainment\, film\, hospitality\, game development\, government\, nonprofits and software design. \nKaliq’s passion is bringing people together through immersive storytelling.
