A Toolkit for Immersive

A practical session on designing immersive experiences around the visitor – with a free toolkit any team can use.
Immersive design know-how often sits with large studios and big budgets. Emerging creatives, cultural organisations and smaller teams have the ambition, but rarely the frameworks or specialist expertise to match.
This Experience Briefing introduces Immerse Up, Gary Moynihan’s free, practical toolkit for designing more meaningful, visitor-centred experiences.
The goal: give producers and creative teams practical frameworks for turning ambitious ideas into experiences that work for the people walking through them.
The idea may be bold. The technology may be impressive. But designing an experience that works for visitors – within real budgets and real-world constraints – is less straightforward.
In this session, Gary Moynihan, creative director, consultant and former Head of Creative at Grande Experiences and THE LUME, will explore why great immersive design starts with the visitor.
Drawing on lessons from large-scale immersive exhibitions experienced by millions of visitors worldwide, and from teaching immersive media at Swinburne University, Gary will share practical frameworks for thinking about audiences, participation, immersion and inclusive design.
The session will explore:
- Why great immersive design starts with the visitor, not the technology
- Using the Experience Vision framework to define tone, dramatic arc and memorable hero moments
- Creating purposeful interaction and participation with Moment Mapping, Interaction Purpose and Levels of Participation
- Applying Inclusive Design principles to balance creativity with accessibility, resources and real-world constraints
- How to help clients turn ambitious ideas into achievable experiences
- How the industry can share its knowledge and tools more openly – and help the next generation create better experiences
Who is it for?
- Producers and project leads who need practical frameworks for turning an immersive idea into a viable, visitor-centred experience
- Emerging practitioners and smaller creative teams without large budgets or specialist design expertise – but with all the ambition in the world
- Creatives from other design disciplines developing immersive, interactive and location-based experiences
- Cultural organisations developing visitor experiences
- Non-traditional teams taking their first steps into immersive design
- Anyone who wants to design experiences that put the visitor first
