Award-winning writer, storyteller, and experience designer with 10 years' experience crafting livable stories with language
A well-told story can spark innovation, foster understanding, and ignite social change, and Emma Oliver built her world-class story foundation among experience industry giants.
At Disney Live Entertainment, Emma started her career writing for high-profile experiences like Marvel Day at Sea and Pandora — World of Avatar. With a background in prose and linguistics and a Master of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing, Emma quickly expanded into additional facets of themed entertainment – scripting multi-million-dollar rides, spectaculars, 4D and VR experiences, design narratives, and themed placemaking with clients including Universal Studios Japan, Hotopp Associates, Superfly, Falcon's Creative Group, MDSX, and more.
Around the globe, projects like Sherlock Holmes: The Curse of the Rose Sword and Super Nintendo World Challenge have won theme park design awards, supported TEA award-winning lands, and brought in the highest guest ratings in their categories.
With a passion for the guest's emotional journey and a strong sense of audience, Emma brings meticulous attention to detail and deep knowledge of story composition to her products. She’s written for global audiences of all ages, on intellectual properties original and established. With experience in multiple languages and mediums, Emma weighs each word and story element, designing thoughtful, inclusive, and captivating content that transcends entertainment to impact and inspire.
Complementing her achievements in experience design, Emma’s trained and worked as a narrative and conversation designer on mobile games and applications, virtual experiences, and AI. Magazines and anthologies have published her stories, essays, and poetry, while her works for stage and screen have been recognized with Emmys and featured at the Kennedy Center and Tribeca and Savannah Film Festivals.
Emma utilizes experiential thinking and expert communication skills to deliver design and experience concepts, story documents, character profiles, copy, and attraction scripts. Through her work in entertainment, Emma strives to create experiences that inspire guests long after they’ve lived our stories.
