ZEBRADOG inspires organizations to share their stories, cultures, and unique histories in ways that emotionally connect to their communities.
"We spend 87% of our lives inside. The power of an inspirational environment is critical to our life’s success. We use design as a tool to enhance our humanity and deepen our emotional connections to a place."
Mark Schmitz, ZEBRADOG Founder + Creative Director
For 30 years, Mark Schmitz and his team have helped shape the experience economy by prioritizing stories and placemaking in the built environment to create personal, memorable experiences.
Our studio is a unique consortium of experiential design strategists, environmental graphic designers, interactive media designers/developers, and interior/architectural designers. The commitment to “the story” is extraordinary, our process is proven, and our results are spectacular.
We specialize in reinventing what’s possible in physical environments for higher education, professional stadia, healthcare/research facilities, and corporate headquarters. ZEBRADOG has transformed some of America’s favorite places and the brands that live in them, including the famed Lambeau Field home to the Green Bay Packers, Baltusrol Golf Club, Leinenkugel’s Brewery tour, Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University, Sub-Zero Group, as well as Emory, Northwestern, Marquette, Pitt, and Chicago Universities. We work directly with owner groups or team with architects such as HOK, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, FLAD, The S/L/A/M Collaborative, Ballinger, BECK as the Experience Design Consultant on the project.
As a Certified Experience Economy Expert (CEEE), Mark works to enhance client understanding of how to create successful experiences that are memorable and inherently personal to each individual. He is a frequent keynote speaker on the subject of “Dynamic Environments” and “Human Experience of a Brand” for organizations such as Herman Miller, American Institute of Architects (AIA), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and the American Marketing Association (AMA).
Mark has a passion for historic buildings, placemaking, and preservation. The ZEBRADOG studio is located in a lovingly restored 110-year-old Carnegie Library in Madison, Wisconsin USA. He serves on the Board of Trustees for Taliesin Preservation Inc. and is an active spark for the preservation and revitalization of other national landmark treasures.
